Mapping

This week, we looked at using different symbols to represent common items on a map. Students created a guide for 9 symbols in their visual journal that they will use next week in the coulee. Some students began work on a fantasy map of a land or community they created.

Gym

Students have been working on developing locomotor skills in gym. This week they played crab soccer and did some movement relays.

Math

We began looking at patterns this week in math. We identified the term pattern and pattern rule. Students explored patterns in calendars and looked for repeating, increasing and decreasing patterns.

Science

This week we worked on Hearing and Sound and Light and Shadow Wonder Centres. Students had the opportunity to read, watch, measure and create sounds and lights. Students worked in grade groups to complete 4 centres throughout the week. Some activities included learning about measuring sound and identifying dangerous sounds, or comparing human and animal hearing; others looked at what types of materials create reflections and how light travels in different situations.
