"Today we had three math problems. One about fruits, one where there's the name Matilda and you had to see which letter is the 1000th letter. And we also had a math check in about the expanded strategy and on the second page there were a bunch of different problems we had to solve." Charlie

"There's a pattern of hearts like a heart and a shape and a heart and a shape and you had to find out what the 100th shape and the 101 shape were." Micah



Winter Celebrations
"Each class had a song and we shared on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Some of the songs were different and some were English and the others were French." Taylor

"We had to sing a song that was the three Chipmunks. Some people had toys and balls and some had a hula hoop. Onthe other parts you had to holdup your item. In the part where it pauses you had to hula hoop as long as you can and play with the planes and toys and balls." Gabrielle




Country and Province Resource Project
"When we were doing our countries and provinces we had to give quite a few facts like some of the resources." Lunden

" Yesterday we did the last finishing touches and then we shared. Everybody got a turn so we didn't do it today, we did everybody yesterday. All of them were creative." Allison




Art
"We were making houses out of 3D paper shapes and we had to finish it by Friday. Today we finished the up and we are going to bring them home and show them to our parents." Jack

"When we were first starting the shapes, Ms. Cropper gave us a tracing paper that we could use to copy down the shapes for example like a cube. We could draw that on card stock. We couldn't have too many card stock, so we could only finish two shapes and then get another piece." Maiara




The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
"We started the book 6 weeks ago. It's about a boy who wants to bring electricity to his whole town in Malawi. We just finished it this week. It was really good." Son

"The people saw his windmill and William went to TED Talk and there was like a Meet and when it was William's turn he couldn't say English words and when his friend asked him to explain he started to explain and he thought everyone would laugh but everyone liked it. We got to see the TED Talk video after we finished the book." Suld

IMPORTANT DATES September 29 - Orange Shirt Day   September 30 - National Truth and Reconciliation Day, no school Terry Fox Run This week we had our annual Terry Fox Run. Students spent some time in the day learning about Terry and his legacy. We watched a great video made by some of our grade 3/4 students. After the run we got some snacks provided by the Parent Council - thank you! Math This week in math we continued to work with place value. We explored the thousandths and ten thousandth place and practiced representing numbers using Base Ten blocks. We also explored some number patterns through low floor high ceiling problems. Students looked at addition and subtraction patterns with odd and even numbers and practiced addition playing "Race to 100". Mapping We finished our maps of the school after reviewing our first and second drafts and comparing them to a master map. We also remind you that Halloween masks are not a replacement for face coverings for COVID Coulee Walk "We went in groups and some people took pictures and some people too recordings of things in nature. And if we couldn't we find it we could whistle for a bird or tap our pencils on a tree." Allison "We drew a map of the coulee.   Important Dates November 1-10 - Veteran's Food Drive November 11, 12 - No school for students November 16 - Photo Retake Day Writing This week we worked on making basic sentences and paragraphs more exciting by adding specific nouns, vivid verbs, adjectives and adverbs. We also learned that you can take one basic sentence or paragraph and make it creepy or happy just by choosing different descriptive language to add to the words. Math This week, we connected what we learned about using tables and charts to find patterns to understanding how to represent data. We started looking at pictographs and how to create them from charts and tables. Students explored what makes a good survey question for collecting data for a graph. Science This week we wrapped up our hearing and light topics by designing and building light and sound devices to meet certain criteria. Grade 3s worked to created sound devices that needed to change volume and pitch and had a good sound quality. Grade 4s create...
