Writing
We are wrapping up our rough copies of our stories. So far we have brainstormed "What if" questions, planned out beginning, middle and end event points and beginning the peer editing process. Students worked with peers to provide constructive feedback that allowed them to add more details and ideas to their writing.



Multiplication
We have begun looking at multiplication. This week we learned what the words multiplication, repeated addition, factor, product and multiple meant. We used these to help solve some group problems and find patterns in different times tables. Students worked in groups to annotate a times table. They rotated through different times tables adding their notes about the different patterns they found.




Science
Students worked to review vocabulary work they started last week. They completed posters to show their understanding of different terms using Frayer models, webs, pictures and jot notes. Grade 3s were working to discover the meaning of the words: Rock, Mineral, Soil, Fossil. Grade 4s were working to discover the meaning of the words: Biodegrade, Decompose, Pollution and Toxic Waste.



Art
We continued our exploration of making things look 3D. This week we learned how to make a shape look like it was dropping into the page. Students played with lines and shading to create the effect.

   Important Dates May 30 - Bike to School begins June 7 - Grade 4 visit to TMC June 9 - Class photo retake June 13 - Grade 4 Heritage Park June 15, 16, 17 - Alien Inline Skating June 23 - Sports Day Reading Presentation We had a visit from librarian student Megan. She shared three stories about plants, trees and caring for the environment. Students got to participate in one of the stories using story sticks. Science Students began exploring some concept vocabulary for our work on building. Grade 3s will be looking at structures like towers, bridges and containers. Grade 4s will be looking at simple machines. Students worked in pairs to identify the meaning and characteristics of the vocabulary and used pictures to show what they mean. Students began work on our next round of science Wonder Centres on building.
