    • Unique Sock Day

    On Monday March 14th staff and students at Tuscany School are invited to participate in Unique Sock Day.  This is a day for all of us to wear unique, fun, colorful socks to celebrate how unique each one of us is.  This day connects well with all of the work we have already been engaged in at our school focused on belonging, respecting differences and celebrating each individual's strengths and gifts they bring to the world.  

     

    Tuscany's Unique Sock Day links up with internationally recognized World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) on March 21st (3/21) signifying a third copy of the 21st chromosome. In honor of that extra chromosome – and because chromosomes look like socks – people around the world wear fun, brightly colored and mismatched socks to show support and awareness for individuals with Down Syndrome AND to celebrate the similarities and differences that make us ALL unique.


    Social Studies


    This week, students continued research about the regions in India, Ukraine, Peru and Tunisia (grade 3), and Alberta (grade 4). They were looking for unique features of each region and how the regions are determined. We will be working with some maps in the next few weeks to explore how resources, landforms and water can impact the economy.



    Math

    We are still working on division. This week we looked at using the partial quotient. Students were able to use the multiplication facts they know to solve larger division questions. Check out the Jamboard for some examples.

    Science

    We wrapped up our Wonder Centres this week on Rocks (grade 3) and Waste (grade 4). Please check out the two additional centres in the Celebration of Learning to get an idea of how students work through experiments and science challenges.

       Important Dates May 30 - Bike to School begins June 7 - Grade 4 visit to TMC June 9 - Class photo retake June 13 - Grade 4 Heritage Park June 15, 16, 17 - Alien Inline Skating June 23 - Sports Day Reading Presentation We had a visit from librarian student Megan. She shared three stories about plants, trees and caring for the environment. Students got to participate in one of the stories using story sticks. Science Students began exploring some concept vocabulary for our work on building. Grade 3s will be looking at structures like towers, bridges and containers. Grade 4s will be looking at simple machines. Students worked in pairs to identify the meaning and characteristics of the vocabulary and used pictures to show what they mean. Students began work on our next round of science Wonder Centres on building.
