Gorilla and Plant Research

Grade 3 students have been researching about the Western Lowland Gorillas. They have been focused on characteristics like appearance, food, habitat, adaptations and human impacts. Grade 4 students have been researching different plant species from the Democratic Republic of Congo (the Western Lowland Gorilla's habitat). They have been focusing on what their plant needs to be successful, how its seeds are disseminated, how it grows, how it connects to Gorillas. Students have been working together to gather a basic knowledge of gorillas and their environment through a series of surveys and quizzes. Students have also been using their graphing knowledge to graph all the data they have been discovering.

Math
Grade 3 students have been working on exploring problem solving using addition and subtraction. They have been working in groups to complete a series of problems that require them to think about strategies and what makes a good problem. Grade 4 students have been exploring tenths and hundredths through decimals. They have learned how to represent tenths and hundredths using decimals, fractions and hundred grids.

Coding
Today we began coding using Code.org. Students will be working through a course to learn different coding skills before applying these on some projects in the future. Students reviewed Digital Citizenship and completed a few unplugged activities and Lesson 3 from the course. Coding can help students develop new strategies and approaches for problem solving.

Curling
Today we challenged Ms. Arcure's class to a curling Bonspiel. The classes pared off against each other in an epic tournament of 5 ends. At the end, we had a tie between the two classes. Perhaps another challenge will be in our future.

Art
We are working to wrap up step one of our crayon art project. We are hoping to being step two next week.
