Math
This week we began looking at measuring distance, perimeter and area. We explored these words and what they mean, we also looked at the terms length and width. Students engaged in some hands on measuring activities to find lengths and widths around the classroom. They then worked together to calculate perimeters. We began our number talks on this topic at well looking at perimeter of regular and irregular shapes.
We began a new Wonder Centre this week and switched up our groups. Students continue to engage in the research process, focusing on how to understand and answer a guiding question. They are developing skills to organize their notes and share their understanding in a variety of ways, including posters, podcasts, videos, infographics and pictographics.
Land Art
Students worked to complete all parts of our Land Art projects. They worked on some painting and shadow work, poetry and watercolour, as well as photography and photo editing. Stay tuned for details about viewing the completed projects.
Space Tomatoes
We had our second Space Tomato virtual presentation. Students engaged in a design challenge to create a stable structure to support the tomato seedlings as they grow too tall to support their own weight. Students will test their designs in the next few weeks to see if they planned well to allow the plant to access sun, water and soil.
Amazing Race
We began participating in the Amazing Race Challenge for our DPA this week. We visited Peru and completed a Road Block to run up Machu Picchu and Speed Bump to create a classroom rainbow. We will be continuing the Race over the next few weeks.
